Everybody Wants My Hat Everybody wants my hat, Whatayathink about that Maybe its the shape or the color It could be the brim that Intoxicates ‘em Not that I’m such an attractive fella My hat itself, I took it right off the shelf I never gave it a whole lotta thought But once I put it on, bing bang bong The most amazing thing I ever bought And now, everybody wants my hat Whataya think about that Now, when folks talk with me, I can see They’re staring at the top of my head And I talk back to them, but again and again They don’t seem to hear a word that I’ve said They ask how much dough for that chapeau If I would be so kind I even tell ‘em the store, but there are no more This puppy is one of a kind That’s right, everybody wants my hat John, Julie and Matt Everybody wants my hat Susan, Peter and Pat They all want my hat What you think about that Now I have some friends who like to pretend They don’t even notice my lid But I know they’d love to snatch it, if they could catch it Right off of the top of my head So I think I’ll stay home where I can’t go wrong And I got nothing to fear just me and my hat all day long Stylin’ in the full length mirror That’s right, Everybody wants my hat John, Julie and Matt Everybody wants my hat Big, tall, skinny and fat They all want my hat What you think about that I look good I knew I would Sing it again Everybody wants my hat John, Julie and Matt Everybody wants my hat Susan, Peter & Pat They all want my hat What you think about that That’s it!

Tears Of Joy 02:16
Its over, its over tears of joy open the windows Tell every girl and boy The sun is a risin’ the breeze is fresh and strong its over, its over tears of joy With the dark days upon us couldn’t see no way out depression pushed me down couldn’t sing, i could only shout ‘i’m in here, my friend, tell me where did everyone go’ My god, it feels so good to know Its over, its over tears of joy open the windows Tell every girl and boy The sun is a risin’ the breeze is fresh and strong its over, its over tears of joy The fog now is lifting The sky is flashing blue With clouds look like yesterday We’ve got so much to do But I’ve got an a Biden faith That we can come through Once again its just up to me And you ’cause its over, its over tears of joy open the windows Tell every girl and boy The sun is a risin’ the breeze is fresh and strong its over, its over tears of joy

The architect blame the builder That carpenter blame the plumber Plumber fear d’electric Shock, you got his number? The house is lookin’ shaky Nothin’ fits quite right When the weather turns and the wood burns Gonna be some cold nights Who’s to blame they all cry I know it isn’t me I’m an honest soul just gettin’ by And trying to be free Its him its her, its plain as day they don’t really belong Why are they here anyway Just look at ‘em, its wrong Everywhere its showin’ up this bloody blade of hate? You think it can’t happen here? Well don’t tempt fate check out your blindness That’s the thing to see There’s a speck stuck in your eye but a log that’s blinding me All the way back to Cain and Abel If you’re ready to go deeper How’s your brother, do you still Refuse to be his keeper? That’s the burning question, Since way back when Will we learn to love each other Or do this all, all over again

Subways are silent Somber hombres numb Reciting verses on the corner by the light of what we’ve done We are held in stillness. Sacred chants unfold Dark history has repeated Tales of greed and go Tonight, We see what we have we done That’s why we sing and beat the drum The drum of love The drum of hope The drum of peace In our time From the valleys below To the mountain sky We sing into the silence Listen for the words Find goodness from the planting We lay deep into the earth hold me now, I am shaken Take my hand, you know the way through these weeds of tangled excess and the promise of a better day May I become an instrument of peace Where there is hatred, let me sow love Where there is despair bring hope And where there is darkness... light.

I am Hutu in Rwanda Secret Jew in Berlin 40 years in the desert On a crazy promise Diseased I fight the cure A wealthy donor to the cause This bird of prey can’t satisfy his hunger Labeled nigger by Jim Crow Bourgeois in the days of Mao Always running. Always seeking shelter From the soot that tell the tale All our damaged dreams I write my name with my finger in this filth CHORUS: And I write my name I write my name Look, see… Over and over and over again I write my name In this devil game My song dying to be sung Your dress never quite undone Wallflower still waiting to be deadly This news so old Long ago grown cold Flatters me, I see my face in that mirror CHORUS: As I write my name I write my name Look, see… Over and over and over again I write my name In this devil game deal me in I say out loud surprised by my own voice I see no no choice I take my chances I feign shock today As it all slips away I raise both hands In a sign of surrender CHORUS: But I write my name I write my name Look, see… Over and over and over again I write my name Keep me in this devil game

This world of mine Sacred Blue Pearl Rolling through the heavens This shy, young girl This world of mine Mother to us all Sings her sweet song That ancient love call You can hear her in the meadow the evening and the morn' Lark and dove together Each day this beauty is reborn In this world of mine Mighty waters and the wind Mountains and the prairie Creatures of the hoof and fin bridge: Just hold on to what is good and what we know to be true even if the tree stands alone. You know what you must do Hold on to my hand Though I am far away I am not gone Hold on, hold on ‘cause his world of mine Lately has been cryin' Seas moan Winds whisper 'is she dyin' but our world is born of love So what we dream can come to be turn and turn again We can set our love free bridge This world of mine A flock of geese shoot the autumn sky I rush to the window And call out… this is not goodbye

about

I started writing this album when I was in Berlin to meet my just-born granddaughter. Oh what a joyful time it was. I wrote several songs during that monthlong visit. 'What Am I Doing In Berlin, Hello Lola, and the ridiculously silly 'Everybody Wants My Hat'.

On the darker side of my stay there, Susan and I visited several holocaust sites. I was considering how all of us bear some responsibility for what happens in our world and I wrote 'I Write My Name' and 'The Architect Blame the Builder'. While Berlin got me started, there was plenty more to write about these past few months. And plenty time to do it with Covid keeping so many of us at home.

I'm sure you won't be surprise to know that that most of this recording was made right in my living room. I hope you enjoy the results.
